      Pengaruh Pemberian Polietilena Glikol (PEG) 6000 pada Benih Padi terhadap Ketahanan Cekaman Kekeringan

      Abstract
      Kekeringan merupakan salah satu penyebab penurunan produksi pada tanaman pangan. Salah satu upaya untuk mengantisipasi tingkat kehilangan hasil akibat kekeringan tersebut dapat dilakukan pemilihan varietas padi unggul yang tahan terhadap kekeringan. Pengujian terhadap cekaman kekeringan dapat dilakukan dengan larutan PEG karena, PEG dapat menciptakan tekanan osmotik buatan di sekitar akar yang mirip dengan kondisi kekeringan tanpa masuk ke dalam sel tanaman, yang memaksa tanaman beradaptasi sebelum benar-benar kekurangan air. Tujuan penelitian ini adalah menganalisis pengaruh pemberian PEG pada beberapa varietas padi terhadap kondisi lingkungan cekaman kekeringan yang berbeda. Penelitian dilaksanakan pada bulan Juli hingga Desember 2024, di Kebun Percobaan Sawah Baru dan Laboratorium Pasca Panen, IPB University, Dramaga. Rancangan penelitian terdiri atas empat sub percobaan berdasarkan kondisi cekaman kekeringan, yaitu: kontrol, stop pengairan pada 3 MST, 6 MST, dan 9 MST. Setiap sub percobaan menggunakan rancangan faktorial dua faktor, yaitu perlakuan priming (tanpa priming/air suling dan PEG 6000 dosis 50 g L?¹) dan genotipe padi (IPB 189-F-6-2-3, IR-64, IPB 3S, IPB 9G, Inpari 32, dan Ciherang), sehingga terdapat 12 kombinasi perlakuan dalam setiap sub percobaan. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa pemberian PEG mampu mengurangi dampak cekaman kekeringan, antara lain dengan mempertahankan tinggi tanaman, memperlambat penggulungan daun, meningkatkan bobot biomassa, serta menurunkan persentase gabah hampa pada sebagian besar genotipe yang diuji.
       
      Drought is one of the main factors contributing to the decline in food crop production. One approach to mitigate yield loss due to drought stress is the selection of high performing rice varieties with enhanced drought tolerance. Drought stress testing can be conducted using polyethylene glycol (PEG), because it can create artificial osmotic pressure around the roots similar to drought conditions without entering the plant cells, forcing the plants to adapt before they actually become water deficient.. This study aimed to analyze the effect of PEG application on various rice genotypes under different drought stress conditions. The research was conducted from July to December 2024 at the Sawah Baru Experimental Field and the Postharvest Laboratory, IPB University, Dramaga. The experimental design consisted of four sub experiments based on drought stress conditions: control, water withholding at 3, 6, and 9 weeks after planting (WAP). Each sub experiment used a factorial design with two factors: priming treatment (distilled water and PEG 6000 at 50 g L?¹) and genotype (IPB 189-F-6-2-3, IR-64, IPB 3S, IPB 9G, Inpari 32, and Ciherang), resulting in 12 treatment combinations per sub experiment. The results showed that PEG application reduced the negative impact of drought stress by maintaining plant height, delaying leaf rolling, increasing biomass weight, and reducing the percentage of unfilled grains in most tested genotypes
