      Pola Hydrotime dan Uji Mutu Fisiologis Benih Dua Varietas Cabai (Capsicum annuum L.) pada Beberapa Konsentrasi PEG 6000

      Abstract
      Perkecambahan benih dipengaruhi oleh ketersediaan air, yang dalam kondisi cekaman kekeringan dapat diamati melalui pola hydrotime. Pola hydrotime digunakan untuk memahami dinamika kadar air benih selama proses imbibisi serta hubungannya dengan mutu fisiologis benih pada cekaman kekeringan akibat PEG 6000. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengidentifikasi pola kadar air benih cabai pada beberapa konsentrasi PEG 6000 serta mengevaluasi hubungannya dengan uji mutu fisiologis pada varietas Simpatik dan Sempurna. Penelitian dilakukan menggunakan 2 Percobaan. Percobaan pertama menggunakan Rancangan Kelompok Lengkap Teracak (RKLT) faktor tunggal, yaitu konsentrasi PEG 6000 yang terdiri dari 4 taraf yaitu P0=0%, P1=5%, P2=10%, dan P3=15%. Percobaan diulang sebanyak 3 kali sehingga diperoleh 12 satuan percobaan. Percobaan kedua menggunakan Rancangan Kelompok Lengkap Teracak (RKLT) faktorial dengan dua faktor. Faktor pertama yaitu varietas cabai yang terdiri dari 2 taraf yaitu Simpatik dan Sempurna. Faktor kedua adalah konsentrasi PEG 6000 yang terdiri dari 4 taraf yaitu P0=0%, P1=5%, P2=10%, dan P3=15%. Percobaan diulang sebanyak 3 kali pada setiap perlakuan, sehingga diperoleh total 24 satuan percobaan. Parameter yang diamati meliputi kadar air benih, daya berkecambah, indeks vigor, bobot kering kecambah normal, kecepatan tumbuh, dan radicle emergence. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa semakin tinggi konsentrasi PEG, semakin rendah kadar air dan memperpanjang fase II. Varietas Simpatik relatif lebih tahan terhadap cekaman PEG 6000 karena nilai indeks vigor dan radicle emergence pada Simpatik lebih tinggi dibandingkan Sempurna. Hasil radicle emergence menunjukkan PEG 6000 dengan konsentrasi 5% dan 10% berpotensi untuk digunakan dalam metode penapisan awal terhadap vigor cekaman kekeringan pada benih cabai.
       
      Seed germination is influenced by water availability, which under drought stress conditions can be observed through the hydrotime pattern. The hydrotime pattern is used to understand the dynamics of seed moisture content during the imbibition process and its relationship with the physiological quality of seeds under drought stress induced by PEG 6000. This study aimed to identify the pattern of chili seed moisture content at various PEG 6000 concentrations and evaluate its relationship with physiological quality tests on Simpatik and Sempurna varieties. The research was conducted using 2 experiments. The first experiment used a single factor Randomized Complete Block Design (RCBD), namely the concentration of PEG 6000 which consisted of 4 levels, namely P0 = 0%, P1 = 5%, P2 = 10%, and P3 = 15%. The experiment was repeated 3 times to obtain 12 experimental units. The second experiment used a factorial Randomized Complete Block Design (RCBD) with two factors. The first factor is chili varieties consisting of 2 levels, namely Simpatik and Sempurna. The second factor is the concentration of PEG 6000 which consists of 4 levels, namely P0 = 0%, P1 = 5%, P2 = 10%, and P3 = 15%. The experiment was repeated 3 times in each treatment, resulting in a total of 24 experimental units. Parameters observed included seed moisture content, germination, vigor index, dry weight of normal sprouts, growth speed, and radicle emergence. The results showed that the higher the PEG concentration, the lower the moisture content and the longer the phase II. Simpatik variety is relatively more resistant to PEG 6000 stress because the value of vigor index and radicle emergence in Simpatik is higher than Sempurna. The radicle emergence results show that PEG 6000 with 5% and 10% concentrations has the potential to be used in the initial screening method for drought stress vigor in chili seeds.
