      Abstract

Gelam (Melaleuca cajuputi Powell) is a peatland adaptive tree species often used in forest rehabilitation activities. Forest rehabilitation requires acceleration in the provision of seedlings and planting, which requires human intervention and suitable methods. One alternative solution is seedballs made from palm waste with a variety of planting techniques. This study aims to produce palm oil waste fertilizers and analyze the effect of fertilizer application, as well as planting techniques (flooding and non-flooding) on gelam growth in peat soil. The method used was a factorial complete randomized design with 2 factors and 4 replications. The results showed that fertilizer application had a significant effect on the height, number of leaves, number of secondary roots, and number of primary roots, while the planting technique treatment affected height, number of leaves, wet weight, and length of secondary roots. The interaction had a significant effect on the parameters of primary root length and number of secondary roots. Palm oil waste fertilizer with carbon activation (PLKS-T1%) gave the best results in the parameters of percent germination (4.13%), wet weight (4.42 g), primary root length (7.97 cm), number of primary roots (4 roots), and number of secondary roots (56, 67 roots) of gelam. The flooding planting technique gave the best results in all parameters, except percent survival of gelam. PLKS-T1% treatment with flooding gave the best results for gelam growth.
