      Abstract

Biflavonoids are flavonoid dimer compounds and are oxidative coupling products of two flavonoids. One of the species of the Araucaria genus that grows in Indonesia and contains biflavoid is A. columnaris. Compounds from this species have already been isolated, giving three pure compounds. Therefore, this study aims to elucidate the isolated biflavonoid compound from the leaves. The acetone extract that was previously fractionated was purified using preparative thin-layer chromatography and radial chromatography. The isolates were characterized using a nuclear magnetic resonance spectrophotometer and mass spectrophotometer. The biflavonoid compound of the cupressuflavone type is 7-O-methylcupressuflavone. The same compound has been reported from the same genus but different species than A. hunsteinii K. Schum species but this is the first discovered from A. columnaris.
