      Abstract

Wastewater before being discharged into the environment needs to be treated so as not to pollute the aquatic environment. The methods used are coagulation and flocculation which function to change small particles into flocs, so that polluted substances can be separated through filtration. Commonly used coagulants, namely poly aluminum chloride, have disadvantages so that natural coagulants are needed. Tamarind seeds function as natural polyelectrolytes like synthetic coagulants. This study aims to compare tamarind seed coagulants and PAC and see the percentage comparison of effective coagulants in industrial liquid waste. Measurement of Mn, Fe, and Cl using a colorimeter and COD using titration. Based on the results of the experiment, the water content of tamarind seeds is around 10.66%. Tamarind seeds have also been shown to be able to reduce the levels of tested parameters, such as pH, color, TDS, turbidity, Fe, Mn, Cl, and COD, but not all parameters meet the established quality standards. However, the use of PAC can be minimized by adding tamarind seeds as a biocoagulant. The best formulations produced were formulations 3 and 8, which contained 25% PAC:75% tamarind seed coagulant.
