      Abstract

Garut sheep are one of the local sheep breeds in Indonesia that are widely raised for meat production. This study used 15 rams (4 Garut, 3 F1 Dorper, 1 F1 Suffolk, and 7 Batur), 102 ewes, resulting in 165 crossbred lambs (67 Garut x Garut, 20 Batur x Garut, 23 Suffolk x Garut, and 55 Dorper x Garut). The aim of this study is to identify non-genetic factors affecting the growth characteristics of Garut sheep and their crossbreeds. The General Linear Model (GLM) analyzed the effects of sex, birth type, and season on birth weight and weaning weight. The results showed that the season had a significant effect (P<0.05) on birth weight and weaning weight. Birth type had a significant effect (P<0.05) on birth weight, with single births having higher birth weights compared to twin births, but it did not affect weaning weight. Sex only significantly affected (P<0.05) weaning weight and did not significantly affect birth weight. The management system should be considered, especially for lambs with birth types above twins and during the dry season, as they have lower average weights.
