      Abstract

Intensive cultivation is characterized by high stocking density which can damage water quality, but the provision of carbon sources can improve water quality due to the cultivation waste. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the performance of water quality in tilapia cultivation given different amounts of carbon on the growth coefficient of tilapia. This study used a completely randomized design (CRD) method consisting of two treatments and two replications. The treatment compared two methods. The first method (CN) was obtained from personal communication with farmers with the application of probiotics and molasses every three days until the 30th day based on the total feed of the last three days and the second method (TAN) with the application of probiotics and molasses once a week based on the TAN value of the water. The results showed that the (CN) and (TAN) methods were not significantly different in water quality parameters. The best growth performance was obtained from the treatment (TAN) which had a survival rate of 93.41±1.65%, a feed conversion rate of 0.78±0.01, a daily growth rate (DGR) of 0.85±0.00 g day-1, and a specific growth rate (SGR) of 3.58±0.00% day-1. Water quality parameters significantly affected the growth coefficient of tilapia.
