      Abstract

Nutmeg oil is an agribusiness commodity with high international demand. Aromatic compounds such as safrole, methyl eugenol, and myristicin are essential to the oil's characteristic aroma. However, safrole is reported to be carcinogenictohealth, so its use must comply with established standards. Separation of safrolewill produce safer products and increase selling value. The separation processused vacuum fractionated distillation, which is efficient, environmentally friendly, and without chemical additives. However, process conditions can affect separation efficiency. This study aims to determine the best conditions for safroleseparation in nutmeg oil through various column heights and vacuumpressures. The best results were obtained using a column height of 180 cmand a pressureof 12 cmHg. The resulting fractions consisted of F1, F2, and residue.withaconcentration of 89.54%; the F2 fraction contained terpinen-4-ol withacocentration of 5.67% and safrole 32.12%. The remaining safrole in the residuewas 2.81%, with a myristicin concentration of 52.50%
