      Abstract

This research aims to analyze the dynamics of water availability for oil palm using the LE-H calculation method during El Niño and normal conditions. LE-H correlates with various climatic elements such as net radiation and soil moisture. An equatorial rainfall pattern with high rainfall distribution throughout the year was found to be suitable for oil palm trees. Wet, dry, and very dry periods were identified based on rainfall data, with 2015 (El Niño) experiencing lower rainfall compared to 2018 (normal), potentially affecting water availability for the plants. A strong relationship was found between water availability (LE-H) and net radiation (Rn) in each period, and a weak to moderate relationship between water availability (LE-H) and soil moisture (SM) in 2015 and 2018. The analysis showed a positive correlation between LE-H with SM and Rn during wet, dry, and very dry periods. The average LE-H values for each period were significantly different in 2015, while in 2018, they tended to be the same. Despite the drier El Niño conditions, the average LE-H values in 2015 and 2018 indicated sufficient water availability with LE-H values above zero.
