Mackerel (Rastrelliger spp.) is a small pelagic fish resource which has a high economic value and an important source of income and protein for communities of Pandeglang Regency. Due to increasing demand, the pressure of mackerel resource exploitation increase and raised the question of degradation and sustainability of the resource. Based on that condition the study aims to calculate degradation and depreciation rate of mackerel resource, bioeconomic analysis for resource management, and identification policy for sustainable resource management.
Based on the calculation of Catch Per Unit Effort (CPUE) mackerel resources in Pandeglang indicated experiencing overfishing in biology (biological overfishing) because of fishing activity. Increased fishing effort unit will reduce CPUE mackerel resources of 0.00001 tons per trips per year. According to the calculation of the average degradation and depreciation of mackerel resource respectively 0.28 and 0.29. Since of depreciation and degradation is less than 0.5 indicates that the mackerel in Pandeglang has not been degraded and depreciated, but since the year of 2009 show the increasing degradation and depreciation.
The best resource management option is carried out under conditions MEY (Maximum Economic Yield) which production rate 2,662 tons per year and the effort as many as 13,971 trips per year. Fishermen will obtain the maximum rents amounting to Rp 23.67 billion per year. Sustainable mackerel resource management policies to prevent and overcome the problems of overfishing, especially in Pandeglang can be done by implementing responsible approach based on ecosystem, socio-economic and cultural, socio-political, and legal institutional aspects.
