      Abstract

The problem with eel cultivation activities is the slow growth of glass eel stage fish into elvers which can reduce overall production by 30-40% of the total population being reared. This research aims to examine the causes of the low number of small-sized eel fish fry resulting from grading in nurseries from glass eel to elver. Elvers were taken using a simple random sampling method with a total of 300 individuals. The fish samples were then measured for body parts to produce biometric data and parts of the digestive organs (stomach and intestines) were taken for enzyme activity analysis. The results of the study showed that the activity of protease enzymes in the stomach and intestines, the activity of intestinal lipase and amylase as well as the relative size of eye diameter, mouth opening width, gill and liver weight in small elvers were smaller than those in the medium and large elver groups.
