Implementasi teknologi mobile agent pada sistem pemantauan jaringan komputer

Abstract

Due to increasing network complexity, monitoring of performance in a computer network is needed. This monitoring is expected not to burden the existing bandwidth capacity, to prevent the network from data access speed reduction. The goal of this research is to implement the mobile agent technology for computer network monitoring. The protocol used in the network monitoring is the Simple Network Management Protocol (SNMP). In the system architecture, the network divided into three parts, namely Network Manager (NM), Network Element (NE) and the Network Device (ND). The SNMP requests will be performed by the mobile agent which is sent to each NE. An NE might be connected to several NDs. The mobile agent residing in the NE will collect the monitored result, and provide it to the mobile agent that act as the collector. The collector brings reports from the NEs and subsequently submit them to the mobile agent residing in NM to be represented as a report in a graphical form. From this experiment, mobile agent technology can reduce the activity of data transfer in packet size and bytes of data during the monitoring process performed. Application of mobile agent can save bandwidth up to 80% compare to the standard client server architecture. Mobile agent technology can provide solution in the development of distributed data system by considering some aspects of the system needed to be developed.
