Lutung sentarum is a primate species endemic to Borneo island, whose distribution
in Indonesia is in the Danau Sentarum National Park. The absence of research related to
the population and distribution of lutung sentarum makes it important to conduct this
study. The purpose of this research was to estimate the population structure, map
distribution, and describe the factors that influence the distribution of the lutung sentarum.
The research was conducted in July–August 2022 at Sepandan Resort. Population data
were collected through field observations using concentration count methods.
Distribution data were obtained through GPS marking and processing with QGIS, while
distribution factors were obtained through field observations and vegetation analysis.
Lutung sentarum’s population in Sepandan Resort consisted of 7 groups with an
estimated total population of 45 individuals. The population density was 0.5
individuals/km2 with sex ratio of 1:3 and the percentage structure of the population that
showed a regressive population. Lutung sentarum distribution included seasonally
flooded swamp forests and lowland forests. Food availability and the presence of other
primates as competitors were the biotic parameters that affected the distribution of the
observed lutungs.
