      Abstract

Body weight can be used as a standard in selecting superior seeds and progeny. This study examined the estimation of body weight in rote sheep based on linear body measurements such as shoulder height, body length, chest width, and chest circumference using linear regression analysis. This study used secondary data of shoulder height, body length, chest width, chest girth, and body weight of 44 Rote sheep consisting of 23 males and 21 females aged young (I0) and adults (I1-I3). A linear regression equation analyzed the relationship between body weight and the four linear size variables. The results showed that young rote sheep (I0) had a higher correlation coefficient between body weight and linear body size than the adult age group (I1-I3). Based on the results of this study, chest circumference can be used as an estimate of body weight in Rote sheep with the equation y=- 27,50+0,7146x for ram lamb, y=-21,85+0,7135x for the ram, y=-6,224+0,3178x for ewe lamb, and y=0,757+0,2761x for ewe. Keywords: body weight, linear body size, linear regression analysis, rote sheep
