      Abstract

Moluccas province is one of the largest fishing areas in Indonesia. It has an area of 581,376 km² with a proportion of 90% water and 10% land. This province is known as a large pelagic fish area, so it has enormous potential in the field of fisheries. Mini purse seine is one of the most widely used fishing gear in Ambon waters because it is very productive for catching pelagic fish. The purpose of this study was to determine fishermen's perceptions of the use of portable FADs, analyze the composition of catched fish and sustainability of target fish around portable FADs, and to analyze the impact of operating portable. The research method was conducted by interviewing and observing directly by following fishing operations for two trips and spending ±20 days/trip. The results of this study indicate that 32% of fishermen have positive perceptions, 39% are neutral, and 29% do not agree with the use of portable FADs. The composition of the mini purse seine catch is quite diverse, there are 7 species of 1318 fish caught. The catch of mini purse seine showed that 53.64% of fish were not eligible to catch and 46.36% of fish were eligible to catch.
