      Abstract

The Primate Research Center (PRC) IPB is an ex-situ conservation institution which facilitates captive breeding and research for primates, one of which are slow lorises (Nycticebus coucang). Evaluation of the welfare of slow lorises in captive breeding performed by analyzing the feeding behavior with focal animal sampling method through CCTV video recordings. The aim of this study was to determine the feeding behavior of slow lorises at the PRC IPB. The results showed that the feeding behavior had a relatively smaller proportion than other behaviors. The feeding behavior was carried out in the afternoon until morning. The locations used by slow lorises to eat were nests, tree branches, cage roofs, and cage floors. The slow lorises tend to eat on tree branches. The feeds given to slow lorises consist of boiled eggs, bananas, papayas, and drinking water. The feeds observed eaten the most by slow lorises were bananas. The feeding behavior patterns that could be observed, include movement towards the feeds, feeding positions, how to hold the feeds, how to eat, and movement away from the feeds.
