Sebaran dan Kepadatan Kuau Raja (Argusianus argus) di Taman Nasional Bukit Barisan Selatan
Abstract
Kuau raja (Argusianus argus) adalah salah satu Outstanding Universal Value
di Taman Nasional Bukit Barisan Selatan (TNBBS) yang termasuk dalam Cluster
Mountanious Tropical Rainforest Heritage Site of Sumatera bersama dengan
Taman Nasional Kerinci Seblat dan Taman Nasional Gunung Leuser. Status
konservasi kuau raja tergolong rentan (Vulnerable) berdasarkan IUCN-redlist.
Penelitian Way Canguk (SPWC)-TNBBS. Data kehadiran kuau raja didapatkan melalui observasi langsung dan
pemasangan camera trap. Analisis vegetasi juga dilakukan untuk mengidentifikasi
kondisi habitat kuau raja. Algoritma yang digunakan dalam pemodelan adalah
Maxent.
iklim (suhu, curah hujan), parameter proksi faktor gangguan antropogenik (jarak
Vegetation Index/NDVI, tutupan lahan).
The Great Argus (Argusianus argus) is one of the Outstanding Universal
Values in Bukit Barisan Selatan National Park (BBSNP) categorized in Cluster
Mountainous Tropical Rainforest Heritage Site of Sumatera. The conservation
status of the Great Argus is classified as vulnerable under the IUCN-Redlist. This
species is increasingly threatened due to deforestation and habitat fragmentation, so
conservation efforts are urgently needed. This effort is hamphered by the limited
information on the existence of species distribution. Several studies related to the
Great Argus population and habitat have been conducted. However, environmental
factors that affect their presence have never been validated. This research aims to
predict distribution pattern, population density and build a species distribution
model also identify the environmental variables that affect the presence of the Great
Argus in Way Canguk Research Stations (WCRS)-BBSNP. The presence data of kuau raja was obtained through direct observation and
the installation of camera traps. Vegetation analysis was also carried out to identify
habitat condition. The algorithm used was Maxent. This machine learning is user
friendly interface devicen and easy to operate so commonly used for studying the
habitat suitability of a species. The environmental variables used are physical
parameters (elevation, slope, distance from the river, Normalized Difference
Moisture Index/NDMI), climate parameters (temperature, rainfall),
anthropogenic/disturbance factor proxy parameters (distance to road, distance to
settlements) and biological parameters (Normalized Difference Vegetation
Index/NDVI, land cover). The shape of the distribution pattern of the Great Argus
in WCRS is clustered with estimated population size is 6 ind/km2. The Great Argus
is commonly found in primary forest but the calling is still audible in secondary
forest and riparian. The species distribution model with MaxEnt was able to
accurately map the suitability of the Great Argus habitat (AUC = 0.846). The
predictor factors that affect the distribution of the Great Argus are distance to road,
rainfall and the existence of natural forests. The results of the study show that WCRS, as part of BBSNP, has a large area as a habitat for the Great Argus in the form of primary forest, but the existence of
road that crosses the national park triggers deforestation and fragmentation will
affect the presence of the Great Argus. Nevertheless, it is still necessary to make
efforts to conserve primary forest and restoration of degraded areas.
