      Abstract

Freshwater fish viscera as a by-product of the fishing industry are generally not used optimally and can be used as fish oil which is rich in omega-3 and omega-6. The content of omega-3 and omega-6 can modulate the immune response so that fish oil is thought to have immunostimulant activity. This study aims to determine the fatty acid content of fish oil from the viscera of several types of freshwater fish and belly fat of pangasius catfish also its potential as an immunostimulant. Fish oil is carried out using extraction with rendering method. The fatty acid profile was tested using gas chromatography and the imunostimulant activity of fish oil on splenocyte cell proliferation test was performed using the 3-(4,5-dimetiltiazol-2-yl)-2,5-difeniltetrazolium bromide (MTT) assay. The test results showed that freshwater fish oil was dominated by pentadecanoic acid and oleic acid. Pangasius catfish oil and tilapia fish oil were selected for use in the imunostimulant activity test because their high yields, eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA), docosahexaenoic acid (DHA), linoleic acid, and oleic acid. Tilapia fish oil and pangasius catfish oil can increase cell proliferation and have potential as immunostimulants.
