      Abstract

The greater wax moth (Galleria mellonella) is one of the important pests on honeybee in Asia, both tropical and sub-tropical. In addition to acting as a pest, G. mellonella has been used as a test insect in several business fields. The need for a population of G. mellonella encourages several fields of business to cultivate it practically and economically. This study aim to determine and examine the composition of food ingredients as an artificial feed that can affect the growth and development of G. melonella. The test consisted of four different formula feed modifications, including P1 (corn flour, wheat bran, glycerol, and yeast), P2 (rice flour, wheat flour, wheat bran, glycerol, and yeast), P3 (wheat flour, wheat bran, glycerol, yeast), and P4 (brown rice MPASI, glycerol, and yeast). Based on the result, the development of the shortest G. mellonella life cycle occurred in the P3 treatment (71,5 days). The highest mortality rate occurred in the P3 treatment of 36,66%, while the lowest occurred in the P4 treatment of 14%. The highest and lowest fecundity of the most female imago were obtained from the P4 and P1 treatment as many as 527,7 and 169,6 eggs/female, respectively. Fertility of the eggs rate occurred in P1 of 31,72% as the highest. P4 treatment gave the best response to larger body size, lower mortality, and high egg fecundity.
