      Abstract

Dry system of fish transportation can be applied using the electric shock as fish stunning method. However, stunning with an electric shock can only knock a fish out for a short period of time. Storage of live fish in frozen temperatures is proven to give the fish a chance to live after being revitalized. This study aimsed to determine the electric shock voltage for tilapia (Oreochromis niloticus) stunning, the length of time for glycerol administration, and the length of frozen time in storage on the survival rate of tilapia. This study used an electric shock treatment of 220 volts for stunning and 5% glycerol solution with 5 minutes of immersion. The average time before tilapia faints with a of 220 volts electric shock was 0.39 minutes and the average time before getting fit was 2.57 minutes. The survival rate of tilapia after being stored at freezing temperature for 90 to 150 minutes given the treatment of electric shock and glycerol immersion were 33.3% to 100%. The environmental temperature of tilapia that was below normal temperature affects the survival rate, blood glucose, as well as the physical condition and organs of the fish.
