Upaya konservasi untuk meningkatkan populasi jalak suren dapat dilakukan melalui penangkaran. Penelitian ini dilakukan dengan tujuan mengidentifikasi teknik penangkaran, tingkat keberhasilan dan pengaruh pemberian ulat hongkong terhadap konsumsi dan aktivitas makan jalak suren. Penelitian dilakukan di Penangkaran Burung, Kampus IPB Dramaga pada Maret-April 2021. Metode pengumpulan data dilakukan melalui observasi, percobaan, wawancara, dan studi pustaka. Teknik penangkaran jalak suren di Penangkaran Burung, IPB Dramaga masih perlu perbaikan. Buku silsilah burung jalak suren telah berhasil ditelusuri. Jumlah populasi jalak suren terdiri dari 19 ekor indukan dan 12 ekor anakan. Tingkat keberhasilan penangkaran masih tergolong rendah dengan tingkat daya tetas dan perkembangbiakan induk tergolong sedang dan angka kematian tinggi. Pemberian ulat hongkong berpengaruh nyata terhadap penurunan jumlah konsumsi pakan utama dan frekuensi aktivitas makan berturut-turut dengan penambahan ulat hongkong (0, 20, 40 gram/ekor/hari) memiliki rata-rata jumlah konsumsi pakan utama berturut-turut 24,59 gram; 9,64 gram dan 9,39 gram, dan rata-rata frekuensi aktivitas makan tiap perlakuan berturut-turut sebanyak 104,76, 40,733 dan 19,1.

This research was conducted with the aim of identifying the captive technique, the succes rate and the effect of feeding mealworm on the consumption and feeding activity of the asian pied starling. The research was conducted at the Bird Farm, Dramaga Campus of IPB in March-April 2021. The data collection methods were carried out through observation, experimentation, interviews, and literature study. The technique of captive asian pied starling in Bird Farm, IPB Dramaga still needs improvement. The genealogy of the asian pied starling has been succesfully traced. The total population of asian pied starling consisted of 19 broods and 12 chicks. The succes rate of captive breeding is still low with the hatchability and breeding rates of the broodstock being moderate ansd the mortality rate is high. The feeding of mealworm significantly affected the decrease in the amount of main feed consumption and the frequency of feeding activity, respectively, with the addition of mealworm (0, 20, 40 grams/head/day) havig an average main feed intake of 24.59 grams; 9.64 grams and 9.39 grams, and the average frequency of eating activity for each treatment was 104.76, 40.733 and 19.1, respectively.
