      Abstract

Indramayu is one of the main coastal areas that housed the third largest mangrove ecosystem within the West Java region and has great potential for marine and fishery resources. The aforementioned potential mangrove ecosystem in Indramayu is the Rembat Beach mangrove ecotourism site located in the village of Juntinyuat. Thi study aims to analyze the suitability of mangrove ecotourism, to calculate the carrying capacity of the ecotourism area, and also to determine the design and strategy for further developing the mangrove ecotourism at Rembat Beach. The results showed that the mangrove ecosystem of Rembat Beach was suitable to be used as an ecotourism area. The development of the ecotourism activities include mangrove tracking, beach recreation, and fishing activities, with a carrying capacity and number of possible trips for each activity, 200 people for 4 trips, 24 people for 2 trips, and 120 people for 2 trips. The development strategy prioritizes three alternative strategies, namely for improving the quality of human resources for management and infrastructure, monitoring ecosystem resources, and increasing the amount of visitors according to the maximum carrying capacity.
