      Abstract

The lubricant that is used to facilitate milking could be a medium for the development of microorganisms causing mastitis and decreasing milk quality. This research aimed to determine the levels of microorganisms contamination in lubricant for milking at Pondok Ranggon Dairy Farm, East Jakarta. The research used 22 samples of lubricant from 11 farms which were selected with simple random sampling at Pondok Ranggon Dairy Farm, East Jakarta. Microorganisms contamination levels in lubricant were examined by doing a test for the Total Plate Count (TPC), total count of Enterobacteriaceae, Staphylococcus aureus, and fungi using standard procedures. The results showed lubricants had high microorganisms contamination levels with a value range 6.0 × 104 ± 4.8 × 104 – 6.2 × 107 ± 5.3 × 107 CFU/g for TPC, 6.5 × 101 ± 0.0 × 101 – 1.1 × 106 ± 1.5 × 106 CFU/g for Enterobacteriaceae, 1.4 × 102 ± 5.7 × 101 – 1.2 × 105 ± 1.7 × 105 CFU/g for Staphylococcus aureus, and 1.2 × 103 ± 1.5 × 103 – 7.1 × 105 ± 5.6 × 105 CFU/g for fungi. Based on the results, TPC and Staphylococcus aureus in lubricants were 100%, while for Enterobacteriaceae and fungi were 90.9% above the maximum limit set by BPOM standard No.13/2019.
