Sampel diperoleh sebanyak 102 orang investor saham meliputi 482 kejadian transaksi.
Psychological bias in making investment decisions can occur in the form of risk averse behavior when there is a chance for profit. Risk averse causes investors to get profits below the expected value due to taking profits too quickly because they refuse to take risks when expectations are favorable. This behavioral bias is explained in prospect theory. This study aimed to identify the behavioral bias of Indonesian capital market investors in making investment decisions due to risk aversion and evaluated the effect of financial literacy and social factors on this decision-making bias. The investment decision in this study was limited to the decision to hold or sell the investment in shares owned. Investment decision-making behavior was modeled using the cumulative prospect theory value function by Tversky and Kahneman (1992) and analyzed by non-linear regression. The t-test was used to determine the presence of risk aversion or psychological bias. Evaluation of the influence of financial literacy and social factors on psychological bias and decision making was carried out by means of path analysis.
The research sample included capital market players or individual investors in the Indonesia Stock Exchange. The period of stock transactions as a reflection of investment decision making was at least one last year prior to the interview. The sample obtained is 102 stock investors covering 482 transactions. The data for analysis in this study were primary data obtained from online interviews using online questionnaires. The sample was dominated by men aged 21-30 years who work as private employees and have a bachelor's degree.
The results of the value function analysis of the theoretical prospect using non-linear regression produced a "concave curve under profit conditions" and "convexe under loss conditions". This means that the behavior of investors in Indonesia who are suspected of being risk averse when they get a profit and behaving as a risk seeker when they get a loss is proven. Furthermore, risk-averse behavior in optimistic conditions which has been proven on the value function, causes real psychological bias towards investment decision making. It can also be proven by the t test that there was a negative correlation between actual returns and expected returns; This means that risk aversion results in investors losing the opportunity to obtain a higher rate of return on optimistic conditions.
Risk-averse behavior needs to be reduced to support decision making by analyzing financial literacy and social factors using path analysis. The results of the path analysis showed that financial literacy is not able to reduce bias in investment decision making, and even social factors had a negative correlation with investment decisions. Therefore, as increased social activity involving investment decisions can weaken investment productivity.
