      Abstract

Mackerel tuna (Euthynnus affinis) is one of the target fishes caught in Sunda Strait and one of the top ten fishery commodity in Banten Bay. One of the threats on mackerel tuna’s population in Banten waters is helminth parasite infections. This study aims to know the diversity of helminth parasites infecting mackerel tunas in Banten waters and determine the correlation between helminth parasites with biological condition of the fish and their environment. Mackerel tunas were obtained from PPN Karangantu and PPI Muara Angke. Specimens were dissected and some organs were examined for parasites. Staining method were used to prepare the parasites for identification. The results showed that the diversity of helminth parasite was from both locations. Taxa of the parasites in this study were Nematoda, Monogenea, Acanthocephala, and Digenea. The highest prevalence and intensity of helminth parasite infection from Sunda Strait and Banten Bay were Neorhadinorhynchus sp. and Hexostoma euthynni, respectively. The number of parasites in this study was not correlated with the fish’s condition factor, total length, and total weight, nor sea surface temperature and chlorophyll-a.
