      Impregnasi Alkaline Copper Quaternary pada Kayu Agathis (Agathis dammara) Sebagai Bahan Konstruksi Menara Pendingin

      Abstract
      Menara pendingin adalah alat yang dirancang untuk mendinginkan mesin dan fluida yang ada di dalamnya. Pada umumnya menara pendingin menggunakan bahan konstruksi utama berupa kayu redwood (Sequoia sempervirens) dan Douglas fir (Pseudotsuga menzieesi). Kekayaan jenis kayu di Indonesia sangat beragam salah satunya kayu agathis (Agathis dammara) yang diharapkan mampu menggantikan kedua jenis kayu impor tersebut sehingga kelayakan kayu agathis sebagai bahan konstruksi menara pendingin perlu diekplorasi. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui pengaruh perlakuan impregnasi Alkaline Copper Quaternary (ACQ) terhadap sifat fisis dan mekanis kayu agathis, ketahanan pada serangan rayap, dan ketercuciannya. Impregnasi dilakukan dengan metode vakum-tekan-vakum menggunakan pengawet ACQ berkonsentrasi 5% v/v. Impregnasi ACQ menyebabkan penurunan sifat fisis kayu agathis, sedangkan sebagian besar sifat mekanis mengalami kenaikan. Nilai tegangan ijin yang diperoleh telah memenuhi standar kelayakan NDS dan CTI untuk masa pakai 10 dan 50 tahun. Retensi ACQ ke dalam kayu agathis sebesar 19,66 kg/m³, penetrasi tembaga sedalam 2,12 cm (97,94% luas/luas), dan penetrasi quats sedalam 2,25 cm (100% luas/luas) telah memenuhi standar CTI STD-112. Nilai ketercucian pada air dengan suhu 51C yaitu 1,95%, sedangkan ketercucian pada air dengan suhu ruangan adalah 1,08%. Pengawet ACQ efektif meningkatkan ketahanan kayu terhadap serangan rayap yang dibuktikan melalui peningkatan kelas awet. Hasil penelitian ini menunjukkan kayu agathis sangat potensial menggantikan kayu redwood dan Douglas fir untuk komponen menara pendingin.
       
      Cooling tower is a device designed to cool the engine and the fluid inside. In general, cooling towers use North American wood [i.e., redwood (Sequoia sempervirens) and Douglas fir (Pseudotsuga menzieesi) as the mainframe member. Agathis (Agathis dammara) is one of many wood species in Indonesia, which is expected suitable for cooling tower component thus its technical structural data is necessary to be explored. This study aims to determine the effect of Alkaline Copper Quaternary (ACQ) impregnation treatment on the physical and mechanical properties of agathis wood, its resistance to termite attacks, and its leaching. 5% v/v consentration ACQ preservative was impregnated to the wood by vacuum-press-vacuum method. ACQ impregnation in agathis resulted physical properties decrease, while most mechanical properties increase. The allowable stress values of agathis had met the NDS and CTI standards for 10 and 50 years of servicelife-time. ACQ's retention into agathis wood is 19,66 kg/m³ includes 2,12 cm (97,94% a/a) copper penetration, and 2,25 cm (100% a/a) quats penetration. The leaching at 51°C water is 1,95%, while that at room temperature water is 1,08%. ACQ preservative effectively increases termite attacks resistance as evidenced by the improvement of durability grade. The results of this study showed that agathis wood potentially replaces redwood and Douglas fir for cooling tower components.
