      Abstract

Laboratory and greenhouse experiments were carried out study the variability of Colletotrichum gloesporioides isolates from Hevea leaves. In the frame work of the study of host-phatogen relationship, observation on the effects of infection by different isolates (Medan, North Sumatra; Sembawa, South Sumatra; Bogor, West Java; Banyumas, Central Java; and Jamber, East Java) on three different clones (IAN 873, GT 1 and PR 305) were focused on infection mechanisms on the host plant, the production of phenolic compounds, the content of free amino acids, the changes in the photosynthetic and respiratory rates in response to the pathogen invasion, and the leaf tissue injury at the cellular level.
