Abstract

Technique to obtain documents with the appropriate content as needed is essential. That is why search string method (string matching) of the contents document is needed. Searching process sometimes has a problems when the input typing or query is incorrect (typo mistake), can be caused by a human error or from input devices. The method used in this study is based on similarity phonetic string matching. Phonetic string matching algorithm that used in the study is double metaphone algorithm. Double metaphone algorithm has the ability to match a string based on the utterance of the good aspects of vowel changes. Making it easier to search documents and information as needed. Based on the results of the study, can be proven that the thesis searching by using double metaphone algorithm can solved the problem that caused by a typo mistake. The used of double metaphone on scientific words turned out to work well, this is because the pronunciation of scientific words similar to English pronunciation. Double metaphone algorithm can work well with typomistake if there is not a change in pronunciation of consonants, especially in writing the difference.
