| Abstract: | Lahan gambut merupakan lahan marginal yang memiliki potensi besar untuk digunakan dalam pertanian. Pengelolaan lahan yang tepat menjadi kunci penting untuk menjaga keberlanjutan lahan gambut. Upaya pengelolaan lahan gambut yang berkelanjutan dengan manajemen pengelolaan air telah dilakukan oleh PT Riau Sakti United Plantations (PT RSUP) dalam pengembangan pertanian kelapa di Kabupaten Indragiri Hilir, Provinsi Riau sejak tahun 1986. Penelitian ini bertujuan mengkaji pengaruh pengelolaan tumbuhan bawah di lahan gambut yang ditanami kelapa terhadap nilai bobot isi tanah gambut serta dampaknya terhadap lingkungan. Penelitian dilaksanakan pada Oktober 2022 di Perkebunan Inti PT Riau Sakti United Plantations (PT RSUP) di Wilayah III Persil 09.08 dan Persil K3.01 serta Kebun plasma PT RSTM (Desa Sukajaya dan Desa Bangun Harjo Jaya), Kecamatan Pulau Burung, Kabupaten Indragiri Hilir, Provinsi Riau. Kedua lokasi ini berbeda dalam cara pengelolaan tumbuhan bawah. PT RSUP Mengelola tumbuhan bawah dengan cara dipangkas secara periodik dan dibiarkan mengalami dekomposisi secara alami, sedangkan para petani plasma di kebun PT RSTM mengelola tumbuhan bawahnya dengan cara dibakar. Pengambilan sampel tanah untuk analisis BI di kedua lokasi tersebut dilakukan pada kedalaman 0-70 cm dengan metode ring sampler.Beberapa data sekunder seperti data Tinggi Muka Air Tanah (TMAT) dan subsiden tanah digunakan dalam pembahasan topik ini sebagai data pendukung. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa pengelolaan tumbuhan bawah yang didukung dengan sistem tata kelola air di lahan gambut yang ditanami kelapa memberikan pengaruh positif terhadap nilai bobot isi tanah gambut. Perlakuan penebasan maupun pembakaran tumbuhan bawah yang dilakukan oleh kedua perkebunan kelapa inti PT RSUP dan plasma PT RSTM dapat mempertahankan nilai bobot isi tanah, dengan syarat adanya sistem tata kelola air. Hal tersebut dibuktikan dengan nilai bobot isi tanah gambut pada kedalaman 0-70 cm di kebun inti PT RSUP dan kebun plasma PT RSTM tidak berbeda nyata, yaitu berkisar antara 0,10-0,18 g/cm³. Pengelolaan tumbuhan bawah dengan penebasan dapat mempertahankan ekosistem alami gambut dan memperlambat laju subsiden. Namun, pembakaran tumbuhan bawah sebaiknya dapat dikurangi agar ekosistem gambut tetap terjaga. Peatland is a marginal land with significant potential for agricultural use. Proper land management is key to maintaining the sustainability of peatlands. Sustainable land management with water management have been carried out by PT Riau Sakti United Plantations (PT RSUP) in coconut agriculture development in Indragiri Hilir Regency, Riau Province since 1986. This research aims to examine the impact of undergrowth vegetation management on peatlands that planted with coconut on the bulk density of peat soil and their impact to environmental. The study was conducted in October 2022 at the Main Plantation of PT Riau Sakti United Plantations (PT RSUP) Region III in Plot 09.08 and Plot K3.01, also at plasma plantation of PT RSTM (Sukajaya Village and Bangun Harjo Jaya Village), Pulau Burung Subdistrict, Indragiri Hilir Regency, Riau Province. These two locations have differences in their undergrowth management. PT RSUP manages the undergrowth by trimming it periodically and allowing to decompose naturally, whereas the plasma farmers in the PT RSTM plantation manage their undergrowth by burning. Soil sampling for BD analysis at both locations was carried out at a depth of 0-70 cm using the ring sampler method. A few of secondary data such as Groundwater Table (GMT) data and soil subsidence were used in this discussion as supporting data. The results showed management of undergrowth supported by a water management system in peatlands which planted with coconut has a positive impact on the bulk density of peat soil. The trimming and burning of undergrowth carried out by the main plantation of PT RSUP or the plasma plantation of PT RSTM coconut plantations can maintain the bulk density of the soil, provided there is an effective water management system. This is evidenced by the bulk density of peat soil at a depth of 0-70 cm in the main plantation of PT RSUP and the plasma plantation of PT RSTM, which does not differ significantly, ranging from 0.10 to 0.18 g/cm³. Undergrowth management through trimming system can maintain the natural peat ecosystem and slow down the rate of subsidence. However, the burning of undergrowth should be reduced to preserve the peat ecosystem. |
