Zoos, as part of the components of urban parks, offer significant
potential for integrating sustainability and regenerative landscape principles
within city environments. Although these principles have been widely applied in
urban and ecological contexts, their specific application in zoo environments,
particularly in balancing visitor experience, animal welfare, and enhancing urban
overall livability remains underexplored. This study investigates regenerative zoo
exhibit strategies by evaluating visitor preference towards landscape elements.
The research was conducted through two previous case studies: Ragunan Zoo in
Jakarta, Indonesia, and Kyoto City Zoo in Kyoto, Japan. Visitor preferences were
assessed through surveys and visual simulations of various exhibit design models,
focusing on key landscape elements such as trees, water features, shrubs, and
environmental enrichment. The findings show that while naturalistic elements
consistently enhance animal welfare, visitor satisfaction is often influenced by
visibility and spatial openness, highlighting a potential trade-off in exhibit design.
Cross-cultural analysis shows both Japanese and Indonesian preferred a
naturalistic landscape setting for the visitor satisfaction and animal welfare. The
most influential landscape elements that influence the naturalistic landscape
setting are trees, water features, and shrubs on both case studies. However, the
degree of naturalistic landscape setting tends to be higher in the Japanese case
study compared to Indonesian case, which may be influenced by cultural
perceptions of animals and recreational expectations. This study proposes a
framework for regenerative zoo exhibit design that integrates ecological aesthetic,
animal behavioral enrichment, and human-animal interaction. These findings
contribute to the practical strategies for supporting both sustainable and inclusive
landscape design, especially in zoological settings.

Penyakit Layu Ubi Jalar (Ipomoea batatas) di Kabupaten Kuningan: Penyebab dan Hubungannya dengan Teknik Budidaya; Sweet Potato Wilt Disease (Ipomoea batatas) in Kuningan Regency: Causal Agent and Its Relationship with Cultural Practices
Imani, Affan Tegar; Widodo
Sweet potatoes have great potential as an alternative food crop. However, the
presence of poorly managed plant pests poses a significant threat to their
cultivation. Recently, this also appeared in sweet potato areas in Kuningan
Regency, West Java Province. This study aims to determine the causes of wilt
disease in sweet potatoes and the effect of cultural practices on disease incidence.
Data was obtained through observing symptoms in the field, calculating disease
incidence and conducting interviews with farmers whose disease conditions were
observed. Interviews with farmers were conducted using a structured questionnaire
covering cultivation techniques, plant health problems faced, and pest and disease
management practices. Meanwhile, the samples were observed using a compound
microscope and a stereo microscope in the laboratory to be identified based on
morphological characteristics and symptoms in the field. The field data obtained
were tabulated with Microsoft Office Excel 2010 and analyzed descriptively. The
observations result showed symptoms of wilting caused by the pathogen
Ceratocystis fimbriata with the highest incidence of 27.4% and the lowest 0%. The
diversity of insect pests was obtained by observing the land along with observing
the incidence of disease. Some of sweet potato cultural practices and handling of
diseased plants were related to the incidence of wilt disease. The use of cv Melati,
sufficient N, P, K fertilization, and crop rotation tended to lower disease incidence.
Meanwhile, plantation with intensified weeding showed higher disease incidence.

Blast disease is one of the most devastated plant pathogens that can cause yield
loss in rice. Blast disease is caused by the fungus Pyricularia oryzae (teleomorph:
Magnaporthe oryzae). This study aims to determine the cultivation techniques practiced
by farmers and their relationship with the severity of blast disease in rice plants. The
study was conducted using two methods, namely structured interviews with 60
respondents and direct observation of blast disease severity in the field.Obtained data
was then processed using Microsoft excel 2019 and the χ2 (Chi-square) test was
conducted to see the relationship between the Cultivation and Environmental Factors
that Affect the Rate of Blast Disease at the α = 5% level. The highest average disease
severity occurred in Babakan Pari village with a severity of 24.95% and the lowest
severity in Pondok Kaso Tengah village 13.03%. Sufficient of P and K fertilization, no
water stress, the use of certified seeds, and full return of straw tended to reduce blast
disease severity. Meanwhile, the use of herbicides in weed management shows a higher
level of disease severity compared to only mechanical methods.
