Clostridium botulinum is one of microorganisms that could cause serious food poisoning. Food contaminated with C. botulinum could not always be detected easily, because not all of C. botulinum strains are proteolytic and produce gas. From 31 soil samples we could identify 15 C. botulinum isolates through a series physiological characters, i.e. Gram stain, haemolytic, glucose and lactose fermentation tests, the presence of lecithinase, lipase and gelatin hidrolysis. One isolate from Bogor was shown to produce serotype D toxin and could degrade synaptobrevin2 (Syb2).id
