      Abstract
      Samudra Hindia bagian Timur (SHBT) merupakan perairan yang unik karena sebagai penghubung antara Samudra Hindia dan Samudra Pasifik, Kandisi oseanografi di wilayah perairan ini dipengaruhi oleh sistem angin musan, Arus Lintas Indonesia (ARLINDU), perubahan iklim global seperti El NiAo dan lndian Ocean Dipol Mode (IODM), Dengan demikian variabitis karakter oseanografi di SHBT sangat tinggi.
       
      The Eastern Indian Ocean region (4°S-16°S and 105°E-120°E) has long been considered as an important area for pelagic fisheries in general and tuna fisheries in particular. The productive pelagic fisheries in this area sustained through enhanced biological production due to seasonal coastal upwelling during the southeast monsoon. In 1982/83 the extraordinary El Nino occurred, and since then the scientist’s interest to its impacts on marine ecosystem has grown rapidly especially in Pacific Ocean. They concluded that climate variability plays an important role on community composition, species abudance and distribution, recruitment level, and tropics structure. Meanwhile, the study concerning El Nino impact to fish resources in Indian Ocean is still seldom conducted.
