A study'ad been conducted to analyze cropping pattern of agroforestry in three zone of Cianjur watershed.
Those three zones were the upper stream (> 1000 m asl), the middle stream (300-1000 m asl) and the down
stream (0-300 m asl). Observation was done to samples of agroforestry plots and interview to respondents
for each village. The. results showed that there were differences of cropping pattern within the three z.ones.
In the down stream area, agroforestry were practiced in community lands and the flat area. Cropping
pattern was mixed croI],.l}ing.. irregular pl.anting space, minimum tillage, low. maintenance an.d the farm~rs
used the local seed for"plantlOg. In the middle stream area, agroforestry practices were found In community
lands and the tea estate plan-tat ion. The cropping pattern of cash crops found were single commodity and
multi-commodity (alley cropping), regular planting space and planting on the line and blocks. In the tea
area, Swietenia macrophylla King was found predominantly. In the upper stream, agroforestry practices
were found in a forest garden. This area is the buffer zone of Gede Pangrango Mountaint. Cropping pattern
found in single commodity (line systems) and multi-commodity (line system and mixed cropping). Trees
i.e. Pinus merkusii, Eucalyptus deglupta, Swietenia macrophylla King were found predominant. Pruning
was a common practices found in order to avoid effect of shading. One of indigenous knowledge
commonly practiced was the planting of talas bogor (Colocasia esculenta L) in borders area to conserve
the land.
