Generative propagation for purple passion constrained by the low seed viability due to the presence of arylus on its testa. This study aims to find a proper method for arylus removal and optimum media for germination and seedling nursery of purple passion. Two experiments were conducted at Seed Technology Laboratory and Screenhouse at Leuwikopo, from July 2015 to October 2015. The research experiment was the effect of arylus removal methods and germination media on seed viability. Purple passion seeds with arylus as control and those treated with different materials for aryl removal including ash, HCl 10%, and CaO were germinated on different media, sand, husk, and the combination of soil and sand (1:1). Variables measured were seed germination rate, maximum growth potential, speed of seed growth, and vigor index. The results of the first experiment showed that the best treatment for the arylus removal of purple passion seeds was CaO and germination media of husk. The treatment produced
60.83% germination rate, 4.127% etmal -1 speed of seed growth, and 53.67% vigor index.
