Development of melon varieties in Indonesia is needed to providing qualifiedvarieties in order to reduce the volume of imported seed. This study was aimed to identify melon genotypes with good fruit quality as candidatesof genetic materials in breeding program. The experiment was conducted at the IPB Experimental Station Tajur II, Bogor, from December 2015 to February 2016 using a single factor randomized complete block design with three replications. Fruit quality evaluation involving 21
genotypes from the Centre for Tropical Horticulture Studies (PKHT) IPB. Based on cluster analyis, all genotypes can be groupedinto two clusters with a dissimilarity coefficient of 0.39. In general, grup A consisted of genotypes having yellow rind and green flesh, whereasgrup B consisted of genotypes having green rind and white flesh. Genotype Q52 and Q54 have relatively high sugar content. Both genotypes have a yellow rind and aroma on the inside of the fruit. Genotype Q52 has green flesh and chewy texture, whereas genotype Q54 has a green-orange flesh and crunchy texture. Both genotypes areconsidered to be developed in the next breeding stage.
