dc.description.abstractThis study aimed to determine the effect of biofloc technology application on broodstock and larva culture on the quality of African catfish Clarias sp. larvae. Catfish broodstock reared in two different systems, BFT and control, and the larvae from each broodstock were subsequently housed in these two systems (BFT and control). Two days post hatched larvae with a range of body length of 0.55-0.76 cm were distributed into 2 L aquaria at a density of 100 ind/L and maintained for 14 days. Besides growth parameters, larvae strength were assessed using strength and salinity stress tests. Strength test was conducted by maintaining the larvae without feeding for 3 days. Salinity stress test was done by soaking the larvae into 20 g/L salinity water for 20 minutes. The growth test showed that broodstock and larvae culture system had no significant effect on larval survival and total length variance, but significantly affected larval growth. Furthermore maintaining catfish broodstock and larvae in BFT resulted in larvae with higher survival in strength test and salinity stress test.id
