Karakter Dominansi dan Perilaku Stereotipe pada Monyet Ekor Panjang (Macaca fascicularis) Sitaan serta Saran-saran Pengelolaannya.
Abstract
This study is dedicated to support the behavioural management of confiscated dancing monkeys of cynomolgus macaques (Macaca fascicularis) at UPT Pusat Pelayanan Kesehatan Hewan Jakarta province. This management is to improve animal welfare and rehabilitate stereotypical anomaly behaviour. Therefore cages condition and behaviour of 47 confiscated monkeys were observed using instantaneous sampling method. The cages condition include 4 socially stable cages and 2 socially unstable cages. Dominant characteristic is found in both type of cages where at socially unstable cages shows higher frequency of aggressive behaviour. The stereotypical behaviour movement of head left to right (weaving) only found in socially unstable cage. Movement of head front to back (rocking) found in both cages and self-injurious behaviour (SIB) found in socially stable cages. In managing the dynamics and rehabilitate the abnormal behaviour mentioned above, it is found that environmental enrichment is needed. This includes social enrichment, occupational enrichment, physical enrichment, sensory enrichment, and nutrition enrichment. It is hope that these information will be the guideline in managing dominant character of confiscated monkeys and its stereotypical behaviour.
