Skate is a great commodity of fi sheries in Indonesia, however it has been less utilized. Stingray cartilaginous tissue contains glycosaminoglycan, which has been widely utilized in osteoarthritis therapy. Th e aim of this study was to characterize glycosaminoglycan from marine stingray (Neotrygon kuhlii) and freshwater stingray (Himantura signifer) cartilage. FTIR spectra showed similar pattern with chondroitin sulphate. Concentration of glycosaminoglycan from marine stingray cartilage was 74.767 mg/100 mL, and higher than that in freshwater stingray which was 66.767 mg/100 mL.
