Th e aim of this research was to determine chemical composition, active compound and antihiper glychemic (α-glucosidase inhibition) activity of biomass and extracellular polysaccharide of Porphyridium cruentum. Th e Porphyridium cruentum cells were cultivated in Becker medium at 27-28,5oC, continously aerated and lighted at 500-2000 lux. Th e cells were harvested at the end of the stationary phase. Th eir biomass and extracellular polysaccharide were determined for term of chemical composition, active components, and antihiperglychemic activities. Th e results indicated that moisture, ash, protein, fat, and carbohydrat composition of dried biomass were 11.67%, 38.34%, 5.54%, 0.33%, and 44.12%, respectively. Active components found in the dried biomass were alkaloids, fl avonoids and phenol hydroquinones. Th e value of α-glucosidase inhibition of dried biomass and extracellular polysaccharides were 33.82% and 71.57%, respectively.
