      Abstract
Th e development of shrimp farming is oft en heading a major problems such as pollution of shrimp pond sediment due to residual of feed. Microbial fuel cell (MFC) as degrading or decreasing in the accumulation of organic material in the shrimp ponds have not been developed. Th is study aimed to analyze decreases in the accumulation of organic material and electrical energy produced by shrimp pond sediments through microbial fuel cell. Stages of research included water quality measurement and analysis of sediment ponds, making series of MFC, electrical current and voltage measurement and characterization of substrate as a result of degradation process of organic matter. Water quality of traditional shrimp pond in Jayamukti village measured were temperature ranged 29-30°C, salinity 18-20 ppm, pH 7.5-8.5, DO 3-4 mg/L and turbidity (secchi) 25-30 cm. Sediment texture classifi ed as clay, with organic carbon content (C) 1.45±0.44%, nitrogen (N) 0.11±0.03%, ratio C/N 13 and phosphate (P) 59 ppm. Organic matter content of shrimp pond sediment aft er 40 days has decreased, whereas the organic carbon matter became 1.29±0.34%, N 0.10±0.02 %, C/N ratio 12 and P content 40±4.08 ppm. Value of cation exchange capacity (CEC/KTK) also decreased to 21.53±2.7 (cmol(+)/kg), and the value of base cations were exchanged for Mg 22.30±3.07 (cmol(+)/ kg), K 4.18±0.85 (cmol(+)/kg), and Na 46.48±14 (cmol(+)/kg). Electrical current generated by substrate sediment shrimp pond MFC, reached the peak production at day-24, with values reaching ~161.99 mA/m2 and voltage ~0.39 V.
