      Infeksi Cacing Gastrointestinal pada Harimau Sumatera (Panthera tigris sumatrae) di Taman Margasatwa Ragunan

      Abstract
      The aim of this research was conducted to investigate the prevalence values and the intensity of infection of gastrointestinal helminths from Sumatran Tigers (Panthera tigris sumatrae) in Ragunan Zoo. A total of 26 individual stool samples were collected from 26 tigers at 4 areas. These samples were examined using modified McMaster, simple floatation, and modified sedimentation techniques based on sex and age group. The result showed that the identified helminth eggs were Toxocara cati and Toxascaris leonina (Ascarid) and also Ancylostoma tubaeforme (Strongylid). There were 25 (96%) of the examined animals infected by Ascarid (96%) and Strongylid (68%). All male tigers (100%) were infected by Ascarid and 64% were infected by Strongylid. There were 83% female tigers infected by Ascarid and 67% infected by Strongylid. The prevalence of the age group of <5, 5-10, and >10 years old, consecutively indicated that 100%, 91%, and 83% were infected by Ascarid and 67%, 64%, and 67% were infected by Strongylid. The highest intensity of Ascarid infection (10625 EPG) was found in females while the highest intensity of Strongylid infection (3650 EPG) was found in males. Those intensity of infection were found in the age group of <5 years old.
