dc.description.abstract | The objective of this research was to evaluate agronomic performance and yield potential of single and double crosses of maize. This research was conducted at the IPB UF Cikabayan Research Station from December 2013 to April 2014. Genetic materials evaluated were five single cross hybrids (SC), 18 double cross hybrids developed from the single crosses (DC) and five S1 genotypes. The experimental design was a single factor Randomized Complete Block Design with four replications. The results elucidated that the genotype category (SC, DC, S1) has significant effects on all traits except standing percentage, number of kernel rows, and yield percentage. Means of the single crosses are significantly better than the other two categories for stem diameter, cob length, cob diameter, and grain yield. There were some extent of genetic diversity among genotypes evaluated for all traits except yield percentage. The yield of PERTIWI3×P31 double cross was not significantly different from the best yielding single cross (P31) and therefore this double cross is considered potential for further utilization in a breeding program | en |
