Pengaruh gaya pengasuhan dan lingkungan nonfisik sekolah terhadap karakter remaja

Abstract

Perkembangan karakter yang terjadi pada remaja menghadapkan remaja untuk bertanggung jawab pada sistem lingkungan. Hal ini berarti perkembangan karakter diperlukan untuk membentuk perilaku prososial. Keluarga dan sekolah yang saling berinteraksi dalam mesosistem berpengaruh terhadap perkembangan remaja. Tujuan penelitian ini menganalisis pengaruh gaya pengasuhan dan lingkungan nonfisik sekolah terhadap kualitas karakter remaja. Responden penelitian adalah siswa Sekolah Menengah Kejuruan (SMK) swasta di Kabupaten Bogor yang dipilih melalui metode purposive sampling. Hasil menunjukkan skor persepsi pada gaya pengasuhan otoritatif ayah dan ibu lebih tinggi daripada gaya pengasuhan lainnya. Proporsi terbesar siswa mempersepsikan bahwa lingkungan nonfisik sekolah berkategori sedang. Sebagian besar responden pun mempunyai kualitas karakter berkategori sedang. Hasil lainnya menunjukkan semakin baik kualitas lingkungan nonfisik sekolah berhubungan dengan semakin baiknya dimensi karakter remaja (disiplin, hormat santun, dan empati). Selain itu, hasil menemukan bahwa karakter remaja dipengaruhi oleh gaya pengasuhan otoritatif ayah dan gaya pengasuhan otoriter ibu.

Character development that is experienced by teenagers requires teenagers to be responsible to the environmental system. It means character development is necessary to shape prosocial behavior. Family and school that interact each other in mesosystem will influence the teenager development. The aim of this study was to analyze the effect of parenting style and school nonphysical environment on character of teenagers. The participants were students of private senior vocational high school in Bogor District that were chosen by purposive sampling method. The results showed that perception score on fathers and mothers authoritative parenting style was higher than the other styles. The biggest proportion of teenagers inferred the quality of school nonphysical environment was in moderate category. Most of teenagers had character that was identified in moderate category. Other results showed the higher quality of school nonphysical environment related to the higher teenagers‟ character dimensions (i.e. discipline, respectful, emphaty). Furthermore, results found that teenagers‟character was influenced by fathers authoritative parenting style and mothers authoritarian parenting style.
