Parasit Saluran Pencernaan pada Kucing Liar di Lingkungan Kampus Institut Pertanian Bogor

Abstract

The aim of this study was to identify gastrointestinal parasites of stray cat in Bogor Agricultural University. The total 30 fecal samples from stray cat were collected in various place in Bogor Agricultural University. Four samples were collected from stray cat in the male dormitory, 6 samples from lecturer residential, 4 samples from Blue Corner (BC) cafeteria, 6 samples from Yellow Corner (YC) cafeteria, 5 samples from Red Corner (RC) cafeteria and 5 samples from Veterinary Medicine Faculty. The presence of gastrointestinal parasite was observed using McMaster, sedimentation, and sporulation methods. The results showed that of the 30 samples, 25 samples were positive of gastrointestinal parasites with prevalence 83%. The identified parasites were Hookworm, Toxocara spp., Toxascaris leonina, and Isospora felis. Hookworm had the most prevalent (73%), followed by Toxocara spp. (53%), Toxascaris leonina (30%), and Isospora felis (23%). Toxocara spp. had the highest egg per gram feces (EPG) (3573±4497), followed by Hookworm (1417±1705), Toxascaris leoniina (989±623) and Isospora felis (471±339). The prevalence of Toxocara spp. was higher in juvenile stray cats than adult stray cats (P<0.05). The average of egg per gram feces of Toxocara spp. was also higher in juvenile stray cats than adult stray cats (P<0.05). Gastrointestinal parasites that were found in this study which potentially as zoonotic agent were Toxocara spp. and Hookworm.
