Concrete is a mixture consisting of fine aggregate, coarse aggregate, which mixed with a cement paste. A cement paste is made of cement and water, that will form a rock (McCormac 2004). The usage of reinforced concrete in construction is expensive, it is an interesting phenomenon to find a new material to be used as a steel reinforcement. This research purposes 1) to measure the mechanical strenght of Betung bamboo, 2) to measure the maximum moment and load of the bamboo reinforced concrete and 3) to compare the strength of bamboo reinforced concrete beam with steel reinforced concrete beam. The steel reinforced concrete beam is used as a strength control. The bamboo reinforced concrete beam is divided into 4 different combination using a dimension 150 x 150 x 600 mm. Testing reinforced concrete beam is done using SNI 03 – 4154 – 1996 about “Procedure for the Calculation of Structural Concrete Building". The average rupture moment of bamboo beam type 1, 2, 3, 4, and steel are 3.318,23 Nm, 2.306,57 Nm, 2.554,89 Nm, 3.001,86 Nm, and 3.498,49 Nm. The bending moment test result shows that the steel reinforced concrete beam (control) show the highest value. The strongest bamboo reinforced concrete beam value is the type 1 with a vertikal bamboo arrangement beam that can reach a moment value 94,85 % of the steel beam.
