Development of sugarcane farming still faces a lot of constraints. Not only by land availability, but also by technical aspect such as quality of seed, fertilizer, institution aspect, etc. Thus, improvement in productivity and technical efficiency is very essential. In other words, it still needs to increase maximum output through resource management and technology. The aim of this study is to analyze technical efficieny of sugarcane farming and its determinant factors by using stochastic frontier production function approach with Stochastic Frontier Cobb¬ Douglas as the model. This study used PATANAS data from Center of Socio Economic and Agriculture Policy (PSE-KP) in Malang and Lumajang Regencies. The results of this study showed that sugarcane farming in East Java technically was not efficient with the index 0.672. From 13 variables which were tested, there were 10 variables that influenced technical efficiency and the rest were not statistically significant. As policy implication for developing sugarcane farming, it needs to improve technical efficiency by farmer regeneration and education, increasing in land access, extension and farmer group strengthening, quality of seed, and production factor availability.en
