Crude ethanolic extracts of Toona sinensis of heartwood, sapwood, innerbark, and leave were examined for their antioxidant (radical scavenging) activity by 1, 1-diphenyl-2picrylhydrazyl (DPPH) and toxicity by brine shrimp lethality test (BSL T) of Anemia salina. This experiment showed that leave. heartwood and sapwood extracts had very high DPPH radical scavenging activity with ECso are 11, 13, and 15 I-Ig fmL respectively. For BSLT test showed that heartwood and sapwood extracts of this plant exhibited higher toxicity (LCso 9 and 12 I-Ig fmL) than innerbark and leave extract (ICso 34 and 36 I-Ig ImL) Pyrolysis GC-MS analysis showed that pyrogallol and 9,19-cyclolanostan-3-01 as dominant compound in the leave extract and the heartwood extract contribute to high antioxidant activity of extracts. Whereas compounds such as o-muurolene, aromadendre~e, amorphene, o-cadinol, 0cadinene and o-copaene contribute to high antioxidant activity of the heartwood and sapwood extracts The qualitative analysis detect all the extracts containing fiavonoids, tannins, triterpenoids, steroids, and quinones which are thought to contribute to the high antioxidant activity and toxicity of this extract
