Gambaran Darah Merah Ayam Petelur pada Awal Masa Produksi yang Dicekok dengan Ekstrak Etanol Daun Kemangi
Abstract
Laying hens are responsive to stress which can cause a decrease in physiological status and production. Empirically, ethanol extract of kemangi leaves can cure various diseases in humans. Uses of ethanol extract of kemangi leaves in animals have not been widely applied. This research was conducted to observe the physiological status of laying hens fed ethanol extract of kemangi leaves. Red blood profile variables observed were red blood cells, hematocrit (PCV), and hemoglobin. Twelve laying hens were divided into 4 groups and each treatment group consisted of 3 chickens as replication. The first treatment group was not given ethanol extract of kemangi leaves as a control(C), the second treatment group was given orally ethanol extract of kemangi leaves with the dose of 1 mg/kg bw(P1), the third treatment group was given orally ethanol extract of kemangi leaves with the dose of 2 mg/kg bw(P2), and the fourth treatment group was given orally ethanol extract of kemangi leaves with the dose of 3 mg/kg bw(P3). The results showed that administration of ethanol extract of kemangi leaves with the dose of 1 mg/kg body weight could improve the physiological status of laying hens during the first week of treatment. Flavonoids, saponins, and tannins contained in ethanol extract of kemangi leaves are possible to improve the physiological condition of laying hens. Meanwhile, ethanol extract of kemangi leaves a dose of 2 mg/kg body weight and 3 mg/kg body weight can decrease red blood parameters in chiken
