Membrane filtration for food industries and waste recovery is a challenging application .. The commercial membrane are relatively high cost. Therefore, there is a need to $eek simple methods to provide low cost membranes. An alternative method to produce ce'liulose acetate (CA) membrane based by bacterial cellulose from pineapple waste was studied. Bacterial cellulose (BC) from pineapple waste formed by Acetobater xylinum were mercerized in NaOH 1% (w/v). Tile dried C powder were acetylated with acetic acid anhydride (1 :5) (ce!lulo~e:anhydride) for 2 hours. CA membrane was made from dissolving 14% (w/v) CA in dicloromethane. The membrane was formed by casting a tilin film dichloromethane-based solution of CA polymer. The CA membrane vas char cterized using a cross flow filtration testing unit. A cross-now filtration testing unit "as used for water flux and filtration of bovine serum albumin (8SA). This tudy produced CA with an acetyl content 42.99% (similar to substitution degree or 2.8 to 2.9), 34.06% moisture content, and 148.33% yield. Tli8 CA membrane has an optimum \ 'at...r flux: at 7.5 psi, wi'h aVer ge flux obtained at 123.97 Um2hour. The CA membra. c 11<: rag~ permeate flu ' f GSA at 114.22 Urn2hour I • and average BSA rejection of 44 .v';%" Tt's membran ""howed icrofiltration function according to its characteristics.
