Pengaruh pemberian berbagai konsentrasi daun andong (Cordyline fruticusa) terhadap infeksi eimeria tenella pada ayam
Abstract
Eimeria tenella is protozoa that causes coccidiosis (blood diarrhea) in chickens. Prevention of coccidiosis are using drug coccidiostat, usually with sulpha. The continuous using of coccidiostat resulted in a resistancy of E. tenella todrug and also residu in meat and eggs, so the use of Andong leaf are the alternative treatment of coccidiostat. In research, chickens were divided into 7 groups : negative control, drug control, positive control, concentrations of Andong : 4 g/ml : 0.4 g/ml : 0.04 g/ml. The chickens were infected per oral with 1x10[4] oocysts/chick and 2 hours after the infection chicken were given with drug (sulfaquinoxaline 13 mg/kg body weight, and with some concentrations Andong leaf). The results of this research were Andong leaf with concentration of 4 g/ml resulted in a decrease in mortality percentages (29.40%) compared with positive control (70.60%) and drug control (58.80%) in chickens that infected with Eimeria tenella. At the end of the observation (14 days after infection), the average of body weight were found higher in chickens given with all concentration of Andong compared those given with drug control. The mean oocyst count were lower in chickens given with Andong leaf concentration of 4 g/ml (500) than those given with drugs control (1.490) and positive control (17.400).
